Rescue Story
Hagen is the daughter of #weact_heart, and just like her mother she had started her life living a sparse existence, roaming from place to place, fighting off hunger and fear. At the end of 2021 Heart was found injured, her leg crushed in a boar trap, and in the attempts to rescue her, her latest little brood, including little Hagen, were brought into a city shelter. WeACT finally succeeded in bringing Heart in to safety, and the whole family was reunited. Now Heart is healing and slowly making the adjustment to life around people, and Hagen and her siblings finally have the chance to just be kids. Hagen has become quite the little homebody, and now she is ready to become a fixture in your home.

Personality
Hagen will become inseparable from you – she will be happiest if she can sleep next to you, and kiss you in the morning when you wake up. She's a little princess, who knows how to show her aegyo! Even if you go to work, or out with the rest of the family, she will be perfectly fine on her own -not a sign of separation anxiety, and she will give you a great welcome back home. One thing Hagen is not shy about is food – she eats fast, and will not say no to snacks! She¡¯s in her chewing phase, and likes her chew toys, and even thought she hasn't started nibbling on things around the house yet, she will need training to make sure she doesn¡¯t get into that habit. In the home she is usually calm and in a good mood. She doesn¡¯t react much to noises outside, and even if she barks, she doesn¡¯t get too carried away. When she¡¯s outside, she is not too sensitive to loud noises, but she is wary of passers-by, especially people coming towards her. She¡¯s even adapted well to bath-time – she tolerates this well enough! Overall, once she gets used to you and starts to trust you, you will get an abundance of affection, and she¡¯s pretty easy-going.

With humans
For all her affectionate nature with her humans, Hagen is still painfully shy - she's so awkward around new people and you will need to help her get used to them. She's not interested in meeting strangers yet, and will back away if she is approached. If you introduce her to someone new, do this slowly and carefully to give Hagen time to adjust.

With dogs
Hagen tends to be a little shy with other dogs in the beginning, but she figures things out on her own soon enough, and usually gets along well after that. She gets along best with dogs who match her pace, ready to play, but not too pushy. She even gets pretty brave when she plays with larger dogs – she will even growl at them to put them in their place. But she will not ever be aggressive towards other dogs.

With cats
Even if she encounters a cat, she doesn't really care, won¡¯t even stop for a second look.

Energy Level
Hagen seems to relish the chance to get outdoors. We currently take Hagen for a good long walk at least once a day, and we go out with her for at least a couple of hours on weekends. When she gets to a playground, she loves running around.

Shedding/Barking
There is a little bit of shedding. She doesn¡¯t really vocalize that much at all – she¡¯s only barked less than ten times in a month and a half.

Needs help with
Hagen¡¯s biggest issue is her fear of strangers. She tends to be more afraid of adult men, but she is more adaptable to women. She needs more exposure to unfamiliar environments and to strangers – giving her the chance to experience a range of situations is probably the best thing to help her open up, as long as this is done step by step, and you will see her blossom before your eyes. She hasn't mastered potty training yet, so be prepared to help her train and develop a routine, as well as learning basic commands.

Health Specifics
None.

Ideal family
Hagen is a flower that is waiting to reach full bloom. She needs time, and her new family will need to be patient and wait for her to open up to you. She will show a bit of timidness in unfamiliar environments and even if she adapts to a new home faster, patience is the key to her heart. She will become brave enough to seek you out and when she opens her heart she will want to be with you, but it has taken the first few months of foster care to see her reach this point. What is certain is that if you look after her and pay attention to her, you can make the break-through to her. She is more comfortable with other dogs than with people, and a companion in her new home might well activate her curiosity and help her fit in. We hope that Hagen will find a family that will accept her as she is, even if she¡¯s a bit of an introvert. In the longer term, it's better to get her out and about, to experience new things, as we are sure she will open up and embrace life!
