Rescue story
In the summer of 2023, WEACT headed to a breeding facility in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do upon receiving a report. Despite having official government approval, the scene was more distressing than anything we had witnessed before. It was filled with severe abuse, illicit euthanizations, unauthorized c-section procedures, and other unlawful practices. Dogs with ruptured eyes, injured limbs, and such severe emaciation that they were in a state of shock were discovered. These unfortunate dogs had endured continuous breeding within cramped cages, with their lives disregarded, devoid of any compassion. Drawing from the evidence gathered at the scene and the tips we had received, WEACT confirmed the harrowing act of using a box cutter to open a mother dog's belly to extract the puppies. We also uncovered a freezer containing over 100 dog carcasses wrapped in newspaper. When the freezer became too crowded, the dogs were illegally buried in the nearby mountains. Initially estimating around 800 dogs at the site, we were ultimately astounded to discover a staggering total of 1,426 dogs. Fortunately, the dedicated efforts of approximately 20 fellow organizations who swiftly offered their assistance, volunteers from across the country, various government agencies, and the cooperation of Gyeonggi-do provided invaluable support for the rescue mission. Together, we achieved an unprecedented miracle by saving all the abused dogs. #weact_kari was born after her mom was rescued by WEACT.

Personality
After her mom was rescued from the Hwaseong Breeding Facility, Kari was born on a clear autumn day, blessed by many. Since then, she has been eating and stretching, growing into a curious and spirited pup at three months. Still a tiny puppy, Kari excels at squeezing into narrow gaps and enjoys playing with littermates she rolled around with since she couldn't even open her eyes. Once, a friendly puppy approached Kari enthusiastically. Startled, she skillfully dodged and confidently blocked the friend with charisma. This behavior has led to speculation that Kari may have more of a dog-with-character disposition than that of a gentle puppy. For her, every new toy and every new friend is a valuable lesson in her puppy life. Today, Kari is steadily growing, just as much as a day filled with play.

With humans
Thanks to the warm care she received, Kari is fond of people. She enjoys being touched, and upon hearing a voice, though she may not recognize her name, she is irresistibly drawn to the sound. While she hasn¡¯t met young children yet, Kari¡¯s cheerful personality suggests that she would get along with anyone.

With dogs
Under the meticulous care of her mother, Kari had no difficulty getting along with her littermates. However, when encountering other dogs at The Home, she exhibited discomfort when they eagerly expressed interest in her. Once Kari is ready for walks and might encounter dogs throughout, it will be necessary to actively intervene and control the situation.

With cats
Kari hasn't met or lived with cats before.

Energy level
Puppies can be very active, often forgetting to sleep because they enjoy playing so much. Instead of letting Kari play as much as she wants, it's important to manage playtime and rest time. Once she¡¯s ready for walks, take her out at least twice a day. Since Kari has a lot of energy, she might try to expend it by destroying things if she doesn¡¯t get enough activity. Please keep a close eye on her.

Shedding/Barking
Kari's puppy coat has not completely shed, making it difficult to determine the exact amount of shedding. She may bark when excited.

Needs help with
Kari requires recall and leash training, and she is not yet accustomed to using potty pads, so potty training should be conducted simultaneously. A guardian who offers diverse training sessions with suitable rewards and praise can assist her in becoming a well-mannered dog with charisma. Kari tends to become excited and bark during intense play with littermates, so training to calm her in such situations is also necessary.

Health specifics
Kari tends to have excessive tearing. It¡¯s not confirmed whether it¡¯s due to a specific food allergy. She¡¯s still undergoing vaccinations, and continuous vaccinations and care are necessary as she grows.

Ideal family
Kari, evident from her small size, resembles a newborn puppy. Despite bringing immense joy with her adorable appearance, Kari requires meticulous care for her health and proper growth in unseen aspects. While she hasn't experienced grooming or baths yet, simple hygiene care needed more than one pair of hands and took a bit more time compared to her littermates. To nurture Kari effectively, prior experience with puppies or sufficient knowledge about dogs is crucial. She tends to act based on her own judgment rather than having a docile nature, so being her guardian requires playing the role of Kari's teacher, shaping her into an even more clever dog. She would thrive as the only dog in the family and would benefit from a family member being present aside from 1-2 hours daily since she¡¯s still a puppy. Kari is waiting for a responsible and committed family to guide her delicately in every aspect and grow together with her.
