Rescue story
In the summer of 2023, WEACT headed to a breeding facility in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do upon receiving a report. Despite having official government approval, the scene was more distressing than anything we had witnessed before. It was filled with severe abuse, illicit euthanizations, unauthorized c-section procedures, and other unlawful practices. Dogs with ruptured eyes, injured limbs, and such severe emaciation that they were in a state of shock were discovered. These unfortunate dogs had endured continuous breeding within cramped cages, with their lives disregarded, devoid of any compassion. Drawing from the evidence gathered at the scene and the tips we had received, WEACT confirmed the harrowing act of using a box cutter to open a mother dog's belly to extract the puppies. We also uncovered a freezer containing over 100 dog carcasses wrapped in newspaper. When the freezer became too crowded, the dogs were illegally buried in the nearby mountains. Initially estimating around 800 dogs at the site, we were ultimately astounded to discover a staggering total of 1,426 dogs. Fortunately, the dedicated efforts of approximately 20 fellow organizations who swiftly offered their assistance, volunteers from across the country, various government agencies, and the cooperation of Gyeonggi-do provided invaluable support for the rescue mission. Together, we achieved an unprecedented miracle by saving all the abused dogs. WEACT brought home 32 dogs, including #weact_lou.

Personality
Lou already has an irresistible charm among The Home volunteers. With her tongue out, her cuteness overflows! While Lou isn't overly outgoing, she confidently interacts with friends. At the playground, she exudes lively energy, sometimes appearing dignified. However, her cheeky pink tongue always brings a smile. Lou enjoys her alone time but prefers being with people. When she sees people, she wants to come out of the fence, so caution is needed to prevent accidents. Lou's past was dark, but her confident demeanor remains undiminished. She continues to make the most of her precious moments at The Home.

With humans
Lou tends to favor familiar faces, but she's friendly with everyone. She welcomes all with open arms, even approaching new volunteers at The Home with the confidence of a seasoned host, readily accepting their touch. Lou loves frolicking with people at the playground. However, since she hasn't interacted much with people outside The Home, please be cautious when introducing her to young children for the first time.

With dogs
Lou gets along well with other dogs, particularly those of similar size. However, she also shows interest in larger friends, confidently sniffing them without avoiding or shrinking back. Creating opportunities for her to interact naturally with other dogs during walks is essential. While Lou is spirited, please observe her closely during initial interactions with unfamiliar dogs to ensure she doesn't get flustered.

With cats
Lou has never met a cat.

Energy level
Lou has a moderate energy level. Taking her for a walk once a day and letting her sniff around and meet other dogs would be beneficial. Since she prefers a quiet environment, exploring activities like playing with toys or participating in nose work that Lou enjoys can create a relaxing bonding opportunity with her guardian.

Shedding/Barking
Lou currently has her coat clipped due to skin issues, and she rarely sheds. She is sensitive to noise and movement around her, occasionally displaying prolonged barking when seeing specific friends through the fence. Providing tailored training to address her anxiety-driven barking is essential.

Needs help with
Lou is currently finishing up her leash training, making it crucial to take her for regular walks. Introducing desensitization training can minimize her barking tendencies. Given her ability to relieve herself both indoors and outdoors, she needs focused potty training. Considering her inclination to eat slowly in the kennel, maintaining consistent kennel training would be beneficial.

Health specifics
Lou is currently being fed special food for her skin condition, and her skin is gradually improving through disinfection and medicated baths. She has undergone grade 3 patellar luxation surgery on both knees and is still in the process of recovery. Please ensure she receives consistent rehabilitation exercises, as well as regular walks on flat ground and stretching, following her recovery.

Ideal family
Lou is more sensitive to sounds coming from unseen places than those from nearby people. Considering Lou's past experiences, situations or sounds that trigger anxiety may have caused stress. Therefore, rather than disciplining Lou for barking due to noise, please slowly reassure her that all such situations can be resolved and she can feel protected in the arms of her family. Please remember that Lou has delicate skin and has undergone knee surgery. It's crucial to handle these aspects carefully and offer diverse experiences to support her development into a confident and well-adjusted dog.
