Rescue story
In the summer of 2023, WEACT headed to a breeding facility in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do upon receiving a report. Despite having official government approval, the scene was more distressing than anything we had witnessed before. It was filled with severe abuse, illicit euthanizations, unauthorized c-section procedures, and other unlawful practices. Dogs with ruptured eyes, injured limbs, and such severe emaciation that they were in a state of shock were discovered. These unfortunate dogs had endured continuous breeding within cramped cages, with their lives disregarded, devoid of any compassion. Drawing from the evidence gathered at the scene and the tips we had received, WEACT confirmed the harrowing act of using a box cutter to open a mother dog's belly to extract the puppies. We also uncovered a freezer containing over 100 dog carcasses wrapped in newspaper. When the freezer became too crowded, the dogs were illegally buried in the nearby mountains. Initially estimating around 800 dogs at the site, we were ultimately astounded to discover a staggering total of 1,426 dogs. Fortunately, the dedicated efforts of approximately 20 fellow organizations who swiftly offered their assistance, volunteers from across the country, various government agencies, and the cooperation of Gyeonggi-do provided invaluable support for the rescue mission. Together, we achieved an unprecedented miracle by saving all the abused dogs. WEACT brought home 32 dogs, including #weact_celine.

Personality
When you meet Celine, she instantly captures your heart! Her kind eyes reveal a gentle and calm nature, and she avoids mischief or chaos. While she may not be overly affectionate, she quietly expresses love by following people around. Despite not knowing her own name yet and responding to any name, her eager and somewhat clueless approach is charming. Although she may not show much interest in toys, she occasionally guards her food. In the early days at the shelter, she was a bit scared of baths. However, with time, she has become quite comfortable not only with baths but also with being brushed, finding solace in the caregiver's touch.

With humans
Celine isn't afraid of people and welcomes their touch warmly. While she isn't overly affectionate, she enjoys following them closely, often with her paws touching their feet. Just imagine the adorable sight of this little one quietly following you around! If someone stops, she quickly sits beside them.

With dogs
Celine gets along well with her fellow rescues, but she prefers spending time alone rather than taking the lead or actively participating in play. While she enjoys being around the group, she values her own time and rarely bothers or teases others. In fact, if her friends bother her, she issues a warning with a bark. As Celine hasn't interacted with larger dogs or those significantly different in age, it's recommended to observe her when introducing her to new friends in the future.

With cats
Celine hasn't met or lived with cats before.

Energy level
Celine's energy level is a harmonious blend of liveliness and calmness. In the company of friends, she indulges in leisurely and playful movements. However, when left alone, she closely follows people. Celine enthusiastically joins in only when someone starts to run. Considering her preference for outdoor potty breaks, it would be necessary to take her on at least two walks a day.

Shedding/Barking
Celine doesn¡¯t shed much. Occasionally, she may join in barking when she hears other dogs.

Needs help with
As Celine navigates this vast world, she is learning various rules and would benefit from high-quality educational experiences. Her friendly disposition has facilitated a smooth transition during kennel and leash training. Although she walks well on a leash and responds to treats, she easily follows strangers. Thus, emphasizing focusing and walking with her guardian is essential. Given her occasional inclination to eat feces, it's imperative to identify and address the underlying cause of this behavior.

Health specifics
Celine has remnants of a corneal ulcer in her left eye, and her right eye shows signs of grade 1 cataracts with vitreous prolapse. She gets medicated baths for bacterial skin inflammation. Also, she¡¯s diagnosed with grade 1 patellar luxation in the left knee and grade 2 in the right. Due to being a bit overweight, it¡¯s crucial to manage her weight with proper exercise and diet.

*Vitreous Prolapse: a condition where the vitreous gel becomes displaced. This occurs when the structures holding the vitreous humor weaken and may lead to eye conditions such as glaucoma.

Ideal family
Celine is generally low-energy, and she doesn't move quickly. To comprehend her relaxed and leisurely nature, we hope for a patient family that respects her pace in all aspects. It's crucial to provide attentive care for the marks on Celine's body from her past and consistently manage her health. While having another dog isn't necessary, if there is one, we hope for a companion as calm as her. Celine¡¯s waiting for a family that will support her through the first moments she'll encounter, ensuring she experiences joy and happiness.
