Rescue story
In the summer of 2023, WEACT headed to a breeding facility in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do upon receiving a report. Despite having official government approval, the scene was more distressing than anything we had witnessed before. It was filled with severe abuse, illicit euthanizations, unauthorized c-section procedures, and other unlawful practices. Dogs with ruptured eyes, injured limbs, and such severe emaciation that they were in a state of shock were discovered. These unfortunate dogs had endured continuous breeding within cramped cages, with their lives disregarded, devoid of any compassion. Drawing from the evidence gathered at the scene and the tips we had received, WEACT confirmed the harrowing act of using a box cutter to open a mother dog's belly to extract the puppies. We also uncovered a freezer containing over 100 dog carcasses wrapped in newspaper. When the freezer became too crowded, the dogs were illegally buried in the nearby mountains. Initially estimating around 800 dogs at the site, we were ultimately astounded to discover a staggering total of 1,426 dogs. Fortunately, the dedicated efforts of approximately 20 fellow organizations who swiftly offered their assistance, volunteers from across the country, various government agencies, and the cooperation of Gyeonggi-do provided invaluable support for the rescue mission. Together, we achieved an unprecedented miracle by saving all the abused dogs. WEACT brought home 32 dogs, including #weact_amber.

Personality
Amber, our resilient princess, never gives up, even in tough times. Her calm demeanor and sparkling eyes exude elegance, but once outside, she energetically bounds around. It's so adorable that it makes you want to travel the world with her immediately! Are you ready to capture happy moments as Amber discovers her likes?

With humans
Amber likes to take things slowly and get comfortable before opening up. While she may be shy initially, once at ease, she shows affection and seeks companionship. She might be a bit cautious with men, so sharing positive experiences and going at Amber's pace can help strengthen the bond.

With dogs
When we rescued Amber, she was pregnant, and being a new mom kept her from socializing with other dogs. Now that she's done raising her puppies, she's starting to socialize, but hasn't shown much interest in making friends. It might be because she's still adjusting, so we need to keep an eye on her progress.

With cats
Amber hasn't met or lived with cats before.

Energy level
Despite Amber's low energy level, integrating regular walks into her routine can offer a range of enriching experiences.

Shedding/Barking
Amber has minimal shedding and used to bark to guard her puppies, but she doesn't bark much now. However, this may change depending on the environment.

Needs help with
Amber has an 80% success rate with indoor potty pads. While she may make occasional mistakes, please continue to provide potty training. Additionally, she needs leash training, so she can enjoy catching the scent of the wind during walks. For her comfort during travel, kennel training is also necessary.

Health specifics
Amber, who has birthed three litters, experiences excessive tear production and is diagnosed with stage 3-4 bilateral patellar luxation. Ongoing management, which includes incorporating simple stretches, standing exercises, and exercising on flat surfaces, is necessary.

Ideal family
Possibly due to past mistreatment, pregnancy, birth, and the unexpected loss of her puppies, Amber appears more sensitive and anxious compared to other dogs. The ideal family for her would provide deep affection to help Amber overcome her pain and lead a comfortable life. While she could thrive as the only dog in the family, having a calm companion might positively influence her. As Amber spends time with her family, we hope she learns to express her preferences for toys or treats. Given Amber's age, consistent attention to her health is crucial. She eagerly awaits a responsible, lifelong family to support and be with her.
