Rescue story
In the summer of 2023, WEACT headed to a breeding facility in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do upon receiving a report. Despite having official government approval, the scene was more distressing than anything we had witnessed before. It was filled with severe abuse, illicit euthanizations, unauthorized c-section procedures, and other unlawful practices. Dogs with ruptured eyes, injured limbs, and such severe emaciation that they were in a state of shock were discovered. These unfortunate dogs had endured continuous breeding within cramped cages, with their lives disregarded, devoid of any compassion. Drawing from the evidence gathered at the scene and the tips we had received, WEACT confirmed the harrowing act of using a box cutter to open a mother dog's belly to extract the puppies. We also uncovered a freezer containing over 100 dog carcasses wrapped in newspaper. When the freezer became too crowded, the dogs were illegally buried in the nearby mountains. Initially estimating around 800 dogs at the site, we were ultimately astounded to discover a staggering total of 1,426 dogs. Fortunately, the dedicated efforts of approximately 20 fellow organizations who swiftly offered their assistance, volunteers from across the country, various government agencies, and the cooperation of Gyeonggi-do provided invaluable support for the rescue mission. Together, we achieved an unprecedented miracle by saving all the abused dogs. WEACT brought home 32 dogs, including #weact_harp.

Personality
It seems Harp sees the world with a lasting sense of affection. From the very first meeting, she approaches others with enduring warmth and genuine interest. Her days are always brimming with curiosity and boundless energy. She frequently strolls around the fence, earning her the nickname ¡®Dongdong.¡¯ On days when she's most confident, she might even showcase a model-like power walk. Harp's positive nature shines through in her ability to find joy in everything, relish a variety of treats, and play enthusiastically with toys. She especially excels during baths, brushing, and grooming.

With people
Overflowing with affection from her small frame, Harp showers love on everyone. The moment new volunteers enter the fence, she eagerly approaches, spreading her warmth. Showing a generous spirit, she openly shares affection with everyone, expressing heartfelt feelings to strangers and inviting gentle petting. Since Harp hasn't interacted with children yet, it's important to observe how she behaves in those situations.

With dogs
Harp gets along very well with other rescues from Hwaseong. She forms fast bonds, especially with those of similar size or age. Her roommate, #weact_lena, shares similar play styles, and they both enjoy climbing on each other and rolling around like carefree spirits. Occasionally, Harp barks at friends passing by her fence. It's crucial to create opportunities for her to meet a variety of dog friends and observe her interactions.

With cats
Harp hasn't met or lived with cats before.

Energy level
There's a rumor that no one has ever seen Harp tired, and it appears to be true. When playing with friends, she goes all out, chasing and playing tirelessly. Sometimes her continuous movement might give the impression that she¡¯s floating around. While Harp hasn't started going on proper walks, even leash training is a form of play for her. Observing her attempts to chew on the fence and pee pads, it seems that if her energy isn't released, she might start chewing on various items. We wish we could tell Harp that if she finds something good to eat, let¡¯s share!

Shedding/Barking
Harp doesn't shed much and typically only barks when her friends do.

Needs help with
Harp is still learning her name and undergoing kennel training. Beginning with focusing on her guardian, it's crucial to gradually introduce indoor potty training and basic manners. Given her occasional displays of coprophagia (eating feces), addressing and correcting this behavior is essential. Additionally, Harp tends to push her face through the fence in an attempt to escape, requiring careful attention to her behaviors.

Health specifics
Harp exhibits mild symptoms of a hernia, and due to her frequent loose stools, consistent care is necessary. Additionally, she has been diagnosed with Grade 1 patellar luxation in both knees.

Ideal family
If you decide to welcome Harp into your life, a small yet lively and affectionate companion, expect a face full of laughter. May the belief in her happiness be granted by the family that embraces her. A resident dog isn't necessary, but if there is one, it's ideal if their temperament and size match well with Harp. To keep her safe, teach her basic rules and manners. Harp is eagerly waiting for a family that can communicate generously with her, fostering trust and love!
