Rescue story
In the summer of 2023, WEACT headed to a breeding facility in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do upon receiving a report. Despite having official government approval, the scene was more distressing than anything we had witnessed before. It was filled with severe abuse, illicit euthanizations, unauthorized c-section procedures, and other unlawful practices. Dogs with ruptured eyes, injured limbs, and such severe emaciation that they were in a state of shock were discovered. These unfortunate dogs had endured continuous breeding within cramped cages, with their lives disregarded, devoid of any compassion. Drawing from the evidence gathered at the scene and the tips we had received, WEACT confirmed the harrowing act of using a box cutter to open a mother dog's belly to extract the puppies. We also uncovered a freezer containing over 100 dog carcasses wrapped in newspaper. When the freezer became too crowded, the dogs were illegally buried in the nearby mountains. Initially estimating around 800 dogs at the site, we were ultimately astounded to discover a staggering total of 1,426 dogs. Fortunately, the dedicated efforts of approximately 20 fellow organizations who swiftly offered their assistance, volunteers from across the country, various government agencies, and the cooperation of Gyeonggi-do provided invaluable support for the rescue mission. Together, we achieved an unprecedented miracle by saving all the abused dogs. WEACT brought home 32 dogs, including #weact_wink.

Personality
Wink's daily routine is all about keeping joy alive throughout the day. The secret to infusing positive energy into her day lies in her ability to weave together moments of happiness. For Wink, people are wonderful, friends are fantastic, and playing is simply the best! Wink happily shares her positive vibes with people and friends, thanks to her helicopter tail. On a memorable occasion, after enjoying a special meal in a paper bowl, Wink expressed her satisfaction by playfully tearing it apart! Watching Wink relish every bite brings immense joy as we see her content with a full belly. Since her rescue, Wink has treasured toys, especially those that squeak. While initially cautious about new experiences, Wink overcomes her fears over time. For example, after growing accustomed to leash training, it has become an exciting adventure for her.

With humans
Thanks to her lively and social nature, Wink easily connects with everyone around her. She extends her warmth even to strangers. When encountering a nine-year-old child, Wink gauged the interaction carefully to ensure the child felt at ease and expressed interest by wagging her tail. Her amiable demeanor shines through as she warmly welcomes gentle touches without any hesitation or fear.

With dogs
Wink gets along well with the friends she was rescued with, adapting to their activity levels and play styles during playtime. She demonstrates sensitivity in her relationships with friends and has never had a quarrel with anyone. As she hasn't encountered any large dogs, it's important to monitor her reactions in such situations.

With cats
Wink hasn't met or lived with cats before.

Energy level
Wink enjoys running and playing with friends, and she can be quite energetic at times, suggesting an above-average activity level. It's important to provide regular walks and engage in various physical activities to allow her to expend energy.

Shedding/Barking
Wink sheds very little. As for barking, she tends to join in when her friends bark.

Needs help with
Wink is still learning her name and hasn't started crate training. As she's currently in the vaccination process, outdoor walks are on hold, but we're working on leash training. Initially hesitant about the leash, she's slowly getting used to it. If she doesn't walk beside you, try adjusting the distance, using treats for encouragement, or calling her name.

Health specifics
Wink has made significant recovery from a corneal ulcer in her left eye, but the eye still retains some cloudiness. Ongoing care includes administering artificial tears and closely monitoring the eye's condition. Symptoms, such as eyelashes growing toward the eye and potentially affecting its condition, are evident. Consequently, regular vet visits for thorough examinations are essential.

Ideal family
With her friendly nature, Wink doesn't show significant sensitivities in daily life. She bathes well and tolerates brushing. With a mild temperament, she seems adaptable in any loving family environment. It would be helpful for Wink to have other dogs at home for play, as long as they aren't too dominant. An active family member engaging her in playtime would also be great. Wink, who has kept her inner light through challenges, eagerly awaits her lifelong family.
