Rescue story
In the summer of 2023, WEACT headed to a breeding facility in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do upon receiving a report. Despite having official government approval, the scene was more distressing than anything we had witnessed before. It was filled with severe abuse, illicit euthanizations, unauthorized c-section procedures, and other unlawful practices. Dogs with ruptured eyes, injured limbs, and such severe emaciation that they were in a state of shock were discovered. These unfortunate dogs had endured continuous breeding within cramped cages, with their lives disregarded, devoid of any compassion. Drawing from the evidence gathered at the scene and the tips we had received, WEACT confirmed the harrowing act of using a box cutter to open a mother dog's belly to extract the puppies. We also uncovered a freezer containing over 100 dog carcasses wrapped in newspaper. When the freezer became too crowded, the dogs were illegally buried in the nearby mountains. Initially estimating around 800 dogs at the site, we were ultimately astounded to discover a staggering total of 1,426 dogs. Fortunately, the dedicated efforts of approximately 20 fellow organizations who swiftly offered their assistance, volunteers from across the country, various government agencies, and the cooperation of Gyeonggi-do provided invaluable support for the rescue mission. Together, we achieved an unprecedented miracle by saving all the abused dogs. WEACT brought home 32 dogs, including #weact_lena.

Personality
Lena doesn't stroll around at The Home; her daily photos capture her energetically running with all four paws off the ground. Lena puts her best effort into everything—playing, eating, and learning. Although curious, she can be a bit timid in unfamiliar spaces, yet once she adapts, she explores every nook and cranny with enthusiasm. At the playground, Lena¡¯s a master at dodging and running. Watching Lena skillfully zoom around feels like a mischievous cartoon character in action.

With humans
Lena absolutely loves people, enjoying their company and moving around effortlessly when sharing the same space. She's totally okay with anyone giving her a pet. Although she was a bit confused at first during leash training, Lena quickly embraced it, happily zooming around the playground. Challenges are just thrilling adventures for her!

With dogs
Lena gets along well with friends of a similar size, and while larger pals might seem a bit intimidating at first, her friendly nature makes her open to meeting new buddies. Give Lena chances to socialize, consistently work on manners, and help her build stronger connections with her friends.

With cats
Lena hasn't met or lived with cats before.

Energy level
Lena is an absolute bundle of energy. She's a fast runner and eagerly plays with any toy that comes her way. Taking her camping or engaging in various outdoor activities with her could be a lot of fun. However, Lena tends to get highly excited, so appropriate intervention is needed at times.

Shedding/Barking
Lena always gives her best effort. If she sees someone showing affection to her friends, she may bark to express jealousy. She also tends to bark at younger puppies, so this may require appropriate training.

Needs help with
While Lena recognizes her name to some extent, she could use active recall training for reinforcement. Due to her energetic nature, guiding her focus is crucial for a stable relationship with her guardian. Lena's curiosity has led her to try escaping the dog fence, so careful supervision is necessary to prevent accidents. She also occasionally exhibits coprophagia, indicating the importance of identifying and addressing its cause for her well-being.

Health specifics
Lena is growing up healthy; however, her excessive tear production demands consistent care and efforts to mitigate it.

Ideal family
Lena is lively and spirited, ensuring her new home is likely filled with joy every day. While not overly sensitive, she responds with curiosity to various stimuli. An ideal home for her would spend ample time together, gradually introducing her to her surroundings. It's best for Lena not to be alone for extended periods due to her young age. Given her affectionate nature, being the only pet so she can receive plenty of attention would be even better.
