Rescue story
In the summer of 2023, WEACT headed to a breeding facility in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do upon receiving a report. Despite having official government approval, the scene was more distressing than anything we had witnessed before. It was filled with severe abuse, illicit euthanizations, unauthorized c-section procedures, and other unlawful practices. Dogs with ruptured eyes, injured limbs, and such severe emaciation that they were in a state of shock were discovered. These unfortunate dogs had endured continuous breeding within cramped cages, with their lives disregarded, devoid of any compassion. Drawing from the evidence gathered at the scene and the tips we had received, WEACT confirmed the harrowing act of using a box cutter to open a mother dog's belly to extract the puppies. We also uncovered a freezer containing over 100 dog carcasses wrapped in newspaper. When the freezer became too crowded, the dogs were illegally buried in the nearby mountains. Initially estimating around 800 dogs at the site, we were ultimately astounded to discover a staggering total of 1,426 dogs. Fortunately, the dedicated efforts of approximately 20 fellow organizations who swiftly offered their assistance, volunteers from across the country, various government agencies, and the cooperation of Gyeonggi-do provided invaluable support for the rescue mission. Together, we achieved an unprecedented miracle by saving all the abused dogs. WEACT brought home 32 dogs, including #weact_oat.

Personality
As the charming youngest member of WEACT, Oat spreads love wherever she goes and has an endless appeal. She's very lively, and when she races around the playground, you might barely see all four paws touching the ground! Moreover, she's quite confident, showcasing her strength with her small body. With her cuteness, confidence, and vibrant energy, Oat overflows with love and radiates positive energy to people! Even in unfamiliar or scary situations, Oat confidently overcomes them with the support of her family. Join her in creating a beautiful future and a bright tomorrow!

With humans
Oat doesn't pay much attention to young children and is open-hearted regardless of gender. However, this applies to kind people! When you first meet Oat, she might seem uncomfortable, so give her plenty of time to get to know you rather than trying to hold or touch her right away. With time, Oat will become open-minded to everyone.

With dogs
Currently living harmoniously with other dogs in her foster home, Oat comfortably exchanges greetings with well-mannered friends during walks. However, she may strongly express discomfort if approached too aggressively, so careful observation and appropriate intervention may be necessary at times.

With cats
Oat once approached a cat at the vet and received a punch, but she showed no signs of concern. However, her personality could potentially cause stress to a cohabiting cat, making living together challenging.

Energy level
Oat is clever, knowing when to play and when to rest. At times, she plays energetically, almost like a marathon runner, but when it's time to relax, she fully focuses on herself and enjoys a comfortable break.

Shedding/Barking
Oat has minimal shedding and usually barks in response to the sounds of other dogs or when seeking assistance. Otherwise, she doesn¡¯t bark much.

Needs help with
When alone, Oat tends to eat her own feces, a behavior known as coprophagia. It is crucial to identify the underlying cause and take measures to discourage this behavior. Additionally, she doesn¡¯t like her paws and ears touched. During baths, she¡¯s reluctant to wash her face, so using treats to create positive associations with these activities can be helpful. In places outside of her home, like dog-friendly cafes, she may occasionally have accidents and stand on her hind legs. Teaching commands such as 'sit' or 'wait' could help minimize such occurrences.

Health specifics
Oat has skin issues, necessitating consistent care, including medicated baths. Additionally, due to her recent surgery for patellar luxation, she will need regular rehabilitation activities, which include simple stretching.

Ideal family
A family capable of showering Oat with love and engaging in various activities would be ideal. With energy akin to a little hero, Oat's small frame holds remarkable vitality. If not channeled appropriately, this energy might manifest in behaviors like chewing on items such as cushions. Therefore, incorporating Oat's favorite toys and nose work activities into her daily routine, along with regular walks, would be wonderful. Oat can thrive as the only pet or coexist harmoniously with a compatible companion. Consistent healthcare is essential, and most importantly, understanding her emotions and behavior. Oat is seeking a responsible, lifelong family for warm and joyful days together.
