Rescue story
In the summer of 2023, WEACT headed to a breeding facility in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do upon receiving a report. Despite having official government approval, the scene was more distressing than anything we had witnessed before. It was filled with severe abuse, illicit euthanizations, unauthorized c-section procedures, and other unlawful practices. Dogs with ruptured eyes, injured limbs, and such severe emaciation that they were in a state of shock were discovered. These unfortunate dogs had endured continuous breeding within cramped cages, with their lives disregarded, devoid of any compassion. Drawing from the evidence gathered at the scene and the tips we had received, WEACT confirmed the harrowing act of using a box cutter to open a mother dog's belly to extract the puppies. We also uncovered a freezer containing over 100 dog carcasses wrapped in newspaper. When the freezer became too crowded, the dogs were illegally buried in the nearby mountains. Initially estimating around 800 dogs at the site, we were ultimately astounded to discover a staggering total of 1,426 dogs. Fortunately, the dedicated efforts of approximately 20 fellow organizations who swiftly offered their assistance, volunteers from across the country, various government agencies, and the cooperation of Gyeonggi-do provided invaluable support for the rescue mission. Together, we achieved an unprecedented miracle by saving all the abused dogs. WEACT brought home 32 dogs, including #weact_anko.

Personality
Anko, with big eyes and a large nose on her small face, has a laid-back and easygoing nature. Whether with friends at The Home or the people she meets there, she doesn't show much interest. She lives each day at her own relaxed pace. Even during meals, she stays unhurried, and she takes care of bathing, grooming, and fur maintenance effortlessly. Occasionally, she playfully engages in antics, but overall, Anko's calm and relaxed vibe, like that of a sloth, is her distinct charm.

With humans
Anko doesn't express much interest in people. Even when petted, called by name, or gestured to, she doesn't exhibit any special reactions. This may be because she hasn't had many interactions with people in her past. It is anticipated that through positive experiences and meaningful interactions in the future, Anko will slowly build trust and express a range of emotions in her own way.

With dogs
Anko isn't very sociable; she prefers to go at her own pace and doesn¡¯t show much interest in making new friends. However, she seems more comfortable when living with a friend rather than alone. It¡¯s clear that Anko enjoys forming easygoing bonds of companionship with friends.

With cats
Anko hasn't met or lived with cats before.

Energy level
Anko hasn't finished her vaccinations, so she hasn't been on walks. While we're unsure of her outdoor activity levels, it's clear she generally enjoys a slow and relaxed pace at The Home, suggesting her energy level is likely to be low.

Shedding/Barking
Anko doesn't shed much. Sometimes, she barks at nothing or during meals. Because she hasn't practiced staying in a kennel, entering one might be unfamiliar, and she may bark.

Needs help with
Since her rescue, Anko has been prioritizing regaining strength and establishing stability. Looking forward, various training, including kennel training, recall training, and leash training, is essential to ensure her safety and happiness.

Health specifics
Anko underwent surgery for her patellar luxation. It¡¯s important to consistently provide rehabilitation exercises, including light flat-ground walking, stretching, and weight-bearing exercises tailored to her walking ability.

Ideal family
Anko doesn't display a distinct preference for food, treats, or toys, likely reflecting her calm and easygoing nature. It might be that she hasn't yet learned to express her likes. She requires a patient family by her side until trust is established. While she doesn't necessarily need another dog as a companion, having a quiet friend like Anko in the same home could offer companionship and a shared connection. Anko is eagerly waiting for a family that can warmly embrace and genuinely empathize with her, understanding the happiness, pain, and fear deep within her.
