Rescue story
In the scorching summer of 2021, WEACT responded to a report and witnessed a horrifying scene in Gumi. In a shuttered lighting store, where temperatures reached nearly 38 degrees Celsius, over a dozen dogs were trapped without water. On the nearby hillside, 70 dogs had been abandoned. Even humans struggled to stand under the scorching sun, and the dogs were barely surviving. Due to the irresponsible owner's failure to provide basic care, the number of animals kept increasing uncontrollably. Thanks to WEACT, other rescuers, and volunteers, all the dogs from #GumiDogHell were given the chance to start a new chapter in their lives.

Personality
Darjeeling's smile is exceptionally beautiful! When she smiles with squinted eyes, it evokes the image of yellow dandelions. You'd quickly agree that she's a perfect example of squinty smiles! Darjeeling is a cheerful and active dog who enjoys playing with other dogs. She shows her joy by running around in wide fields. However, Darjeeling¡¯s a bit afraid of people, so it might take her some time to feel comfortable when meeting someone new. But did you know that the dandelions in her heart are slowly growing, just like a plant getting nutrients from time? If you patiently wait and understand Darjeeling's brave journey, you'll see many dandelions blossoming inside her.

With humans
Darjeeling accepts touch but doesn't necessarily enjoy it. She tends to approach people slowly while observing them. So, it's important to be patient when interacting with her to help her continue to open up through positive interactions with people.

With dogs
Darjeeling gets along well with all dogs, regardless of their size and build. When playing with her closest buddies, she uses the playground as a stage to express her joy freely. However, if a new dog friend approaches her without consideration, she may express her discomfort by baring her teeth or even barking.

With cats
Darjeeling has never met or lived with cats.

Energy level
When Darjeeling plays with a familiar guardian and compatible dog friends, she displays an extremely lively and cheerful demeanor. Additionally, she prefers outdoor potty breaks, so taking her on walks at least twice a day is essential. However, when Darjeeling is with unfamiliar people, she tends to be tense and doesn't play well. It would be great to help her adapt and become comfortable before enjoying a fun walk together.

Shedding/Barking
Darjeeling sheds and may bark from her kennel when on guard or when other dogs pass by.

Needs help with
Darjeeling becomes anxious when putting on a leash or in response to various everyday noises. To help her feel more at ease and gain diverse experiences, she requires desensitization training as well as leash training. She's still not accustomed to using potty pads, indicating the need for indoor potty training. Darjeeling is fearful of people, so socialization is necessary to help her understand the concept of family and build trust through positive interactions. Incorporating touch training is essential; when offering her kibble by hand, encourage her to approach you rather than just extending her head. Since Darjeeling prefers kibble over treats, rewarding her with high-value kibble can enhance her focus.

Health specifics
Darjeeling is healthy.

Ideal family
To prioritize sharing positive emotions and experiences with Darjeeling, it's preferable that the family does not have young children. Because many things will be new to her, she may hesitate and be fearful even before trying them. We hope you'll understand and be there for her through all her first experiences. While Darjeeling may require a significant amount of time, she is an affectionate companion, and once her heart is open, she'll express love in her unique way. During the adjustment period, take things slowly around her, and after she has adapted, provide consistent training, starting with the basics. We are searching for a lifelong family with patience, responsibility, and the ability to love Darjeeling exclusively, willing to spend ample time with her.
