Rescue story
In December 2019, the #SiheungDogFarm entered the spotlight as the story of Yumi emerged—a dog that miraculously escaped with extensive burns covering its entire body. Another animal welfare organization initially launched a rescue operation, but on Christmas Day, the owner transferred all the animals to a different dog farm. Although their whereabouts remained elusive, persistent efforts eventually convinced the farm owner to surrender them. However, the time spent in slaughterhouses had inflicted profound trauma on these dogs. Taking charge of the situation, WEACT and volunteers provided ceaseless day and night care, leading to the successful rescue of 65 animals from the #SiheungDogFarm. Due to their profound trauma and injuries inflicted by humans, it necessitated an extended period of time and heightened effort to rehabilitate them. Even four years down the line, WEACT remains steadfast in its mission to facilitate the adoption of dogs from #SiheungDogFarm. #weact_betty was one of the rescues from this very location.

Personality
Betty shines her brightest when she smiles! She thoroughly enjoys her playtime in the field with her dog friends. Her gentle manners are evident as she approaches them with a wagging tail, effortlessly getting along even with smaller friends. Once Betty discovers a compatible playmate, she gleefully engages, running and rolling on the ground, savoring every moment. However, human touch isn't her favorite thing. Thanks to ongoing positive interactions and touch training at The Home, Betty's perspective on people is gradually changing. Tunnel play, where she navigates her guardian's legs to reach treats, has turned touch into a delightful game. You can witness her impressive jumps, even on slides, when she realizes snacks are involved. Yet, she still needs some time to become entirely comfortable with human interaction. Betty now leads a happy life, leaving her painful past behind with each passing day.

With humans
Betty tends to be reserved around strangers, often showing signs of anxiety and difficulty focusing. However, with familiar guardians at The Home, she displays courage by climbing on them for treats. Instead of approaching Betty eagerly, it's better to gradually reduce the distance and gently touch her under the chin.

With dogs
Betty enjoys the company of dogs that are similar in size or smaller than herself and approaches them with a wagging tail. Having dog friends makes her feel at ease.

With cats
Betty has never met or lived with a cat.

Energy level
Betty loves exploring the field, and for her, walks are a chance to spend time with her friends. Please ensure Betty gets at least one walk a day to meet them and enjoy some free time. Keep in mind that she might become tense in unfamiliar or narrow places, so it's essential to gradually expand her walking routes.

Shedding/Barking
Betty may bark in response to visual or auditory stimuli, and she also sheds.

Needs help with
During playtime, Betty sometimes engages in repetitive behaviors. If you redirect her, she'll stop. Understanding her nature and providing consistent training involving focus, touch, and socialization will be essential. She might startle easily during leash walks and change direction abruptly, so ongoing leash training is necessary.

Health specifics
Betty is healthy, but being around seven years old, she'll need careful managing of her health.

Ideal family
Betty is cheerful but very cautious when building relationships with people. She needs a family that can welcome her with open arms, although she still lacks the courage to fully embrace it. Instead of approaching her eagerly, it's best to show support from a distance and wait patiently. Given Betty¡¯s sensitivity, providing her with an emotionally stable environment is crucial. Therefore, if you have young children who may not fully understand Betty's needs, it might not be ideal. Betty is particularly sensitive to visual and sensory stimuli, and she can easily become anxious. In situations where she feels uneasy around strangers, maintaining a comfortable distance is important. If she startles due to unfamiliar sounds, help her identify the source to reassure her. She especially loves treats, making them a valuable tool for training and building trust. We eagerly anticipate the day when Betty finds her lifelong family that can offer her the protection and care she deserves.
