Rescue story
WEACT received a video report in June 2021, which depicted a clear violation of animal protection laws: a dog was hanged by the neck and set on fire while still alive. Despite our swift response, when we arrived at the scene the next day, the dog from the video had already been brutally slaughtered. The surviving dogs at the location were confined in cages, forced to witness the horrifying ordeal of their companion being cruelly tortured and dying in agony in a roaring cauldron. Among the nine surviving dogs, #weact_bunny, was rescued from this living hell at the #eumseongslaughterhouse.

Personality
"Just a moment. I'll come closer when I'm ready!"
Initially, Bunny was too scared to come out of her kennel if there were people outside, but she has since gained confidence and now approaches and sniffs the caregivers at The Home. She tends to be cautious around strangers and may bark at those who approach too quickly. However, with individuals she has warmed up to and trusts, Bunny is a different dog. She takes the initiative to approach them, often wagging her tail to show her comfort. When you see her circling around and staying close to you, it's a clear sign that Bunny likes you. Offering her treats will result in her sniffing your hand or pockets! Recently, Bunny has become a valuable companion for other dogs, especially those who need practice in walking together. Nevertheless, she still retains some discomfort with human touch. While she may allow chin scratches when receiving treats, she generally doesn't seem very enthusiastic about human touch, even from familiar individuals. As you get to know Bunny better, you'll likely want to build a deeper bond with her. How about taking your time and allowing Bunny to set the pace for building that bond?

With humans
Patience is the way to Bunny¡¯s heart. Please refrain from making sudden or exaggerated movements as she¡¯s naturally wary of strangers. Instead, let her come to you before offering a treat to break the ice. This approach allows you to gradually build a connection, and soon enough, you'll see Bunny¡¯s tail wagging. Given her sensitivity to touch, remember to respect her boundaries and proceed with physical contact slowly.

With dogs
Bunny gets along well with most dogs. Rather than leading play by running around the field, she enjoys exploring and sniffing around quietly. When she finds a friend whose temperament matches her own, she approaches them with a wagging tail. Sometimes, she can be seen gathering with her friends, much like girls gathering behind the classroom during break time. Bunny is the kind of dog who gets along well with friends of all sizes, sharing treats and toys, and even using the same water bowl without any fuss.

With cats
Bunny hasn't met or lived with cats before.

Energy level
Because Bunny freely relieves herself both indoors and outdoors, she requires at least two walks a day. For her, a walk isn't just about physical exercise through walking or running; it's also a time to satisfy her curiosity by exploring new scents in various places. Bunny expends her energy by bonding with her caregivers, which includes making eye contact and walking together at a leisurely pace. She is renowned as an excellent walker at The Home. Although she may become nervous in unfamiliar environments or at the sound of large vehicles, she is a courageous dog who quickly follows her caregiver.

Shedding/Barking
Bunny sheds. While her excessive barking has decreased since her rescue, she still tends to bark loudly around strangers or when she wants something.

Needs help with
Bunny may have success using pee pads indoors, but accidents can still happen, so she may need some guidance. While she might be reluctant to wear a leash in an open space, she tends to be more cooperative in confined areas. Gradually, you can help her become accustomed to wearing it in various environments. Although Bunny may initially respond to her caregiver's voice and make eye contact when outdoors, she often becomes more focused on her own interests. Therefore, it's important to engage her and maintain her attention when calling her. Additionally, help her understand the futility of demand barking and teach her patience.

Health specifics
Bunny is in excellent health and is currently on a prescription diet with hydrolyzed protein to prevent minor food allergies.

Ideal family
We are seeking a family that understands Bunny's wariness around people, considering her rescue background and temperament. It's crucial to respect her pace. While she displays excellent walking skills at The Home, she can still become anxious around loud sounds and passing cars. Please provide her with a sense of security to help her feel at ease during walks. Kindly recognize Bunny's nervousness around people and help her realize that her family's touch only signifies love. Despite missing out on many opportunities in the past, she eagerly anticipates experiencing various things and embarking on a lifelong journey of happiness. Please step forward if you¡¯re ready to embrace Bunny's delicate soul with open arms!
