Rescue story
Last February, WEACT crew headed to Andong after receiving a tip that several dogs were abused and abandoned. We received a photo showing two tied-up emaciated dogs and a carcass of a dog that was ripped apart and eaten. Unfortunately, when we arrived on the scene, we only found bloody remnants of the carcass. However, we were able to find three dogs on a nearby property. This place was no different than the previous one; there were endless animal carcasses and bones which we assumed to be those of a dog and goat. Those that survived exhibited signs of malnutrition and dehydration. One dog was tapping on its dead friend with its paws, while the other two were quivering in fear and eating rotten food scraps. The three dogs we rescued are now #weact_cura, #weact_nino, and #weact_oppor.

Personality
It takes some time for Cura to get adjusted to her surroundings, but if you wait just a little bit, she will greet you with a beautiful smile. While she gets startled by anything that comes at her too suddenly, she is very relaxed at home. She behaves so well during bath time and vet visits that her foster parents are proud of her. She especially loves it when they give her ear rubs and pet her butt. Although Cura prefers not to be held by force, there will also be times when she likes being cuddled and feel comfortable enough to accept treats. By going on walks with her foster dad, she is working on building trust with men. With continued effort and lots of encouragement, Cura will get better :) Please be mindful that she is afraid of people walking straight up to her. If you lower your body and approach her slowly, she will feel much more comfortable. Cura does not exhibit aggression, but she tends to be a little more protective over her food, water, treats, and toys when other dogs are around.

With humans
Cura seems very relaxed in familiar spaces with familiar people. She even asks to be petted or shows her stomach for belly rubs. When her foster parents are eating, she¡¯ll tap them with her paws for a bite and whine to get their attention. Cura gets a little uneasy upon encountering strangers during walks, but she shows interest when they pass by and tries to follow them. However, when she is on a new walk trail, she tends to get nervous. Cura shows interest in children, but she becomes anxious when they approach her too quickly.

With dogs
Cura is interested in all dogs of all sizes, but she has yet to learn how to befriend and play with them. She tends to show more interest toward smaller dogs and becomes fearful when larger dogs want to play with her. When Cura goes up to other dogs, she doesn¡¯t do much other than sniffing them.

With cats
Cura really likes cats. She spent over a week at a home with a cat and got along very well.

Energy level
Cura's generally calm and relaxed at home, but as soon as she steps outside, she becomes super energetic. She loves to start off her walk by sprinting with her long legs for a good 15 minutes before slowing down! Make sure to wear good running shoes when you take her for a walk :) Whenever Cura is nervous, she walks in circles around her foster parents. She knows basic commands, such as ¡°let¡¯s go,¡± and ¡°wait¡± that she¡¯ll lead the way with the former and stay put with the latter. Cura may refuse to return home after her walk because she wants to keep playing. Because she gets easily startled by noises, please use a double-ended leash and securely hold it.

Shedding/Barking
Cura generally has minimal shedding, but she sheds more during spring and fall. She tends to whine whenever she wants treats or attention from her foster mom. Cura only barks occasionally when excited and even scolds her mom for sleeping in.

Needs help with
Cura is both wee-wee pad and potty trained but she prefers to potty outside. Although she doesn't mind staying in her kennel during car rides, she seems to be more relaxed without it. Cura understands the "go" and "wait" commands and is eager to learn more!

Health specifics
Due to Cura¡¯s mild allergies, we try to limit her treat intake and feed her hypoallergenic kibble. She is healthy otherwise.

Ideal family
Cura enjoys going on walks with people of all gender. It seems alright for her to join a single-person household as long as the owner can take her walking frequently. We believe she can do well with children as long as they don't touch or approach her too suddenly. She is looking for a forever family who can patiently wait for her to adjust to her surroundings. Because Cura loves receiving attention and signals to go outdoors or for a treat, she needs someone who is both attentive and loving!
