Rescue story
WEACT received a report that dogs were being neglected in a shed in Mungyeong. The previous owner was ignorant of the importance of sterilization and failed to provide proper care. Due to uncontrolled breeding, there was overpopulation. The dogs were standing in their own feces, barely surviving on contaminated water and food. It took three separate trips to rescue a total of 48 dogs, and #weact_kaya was one of the survivors to finally take a step outside the dreadful shed.


Personality
Kaya, who has started to explore the world, is an extremely curious dog. He is fascinated by the radiant sunshine, breezy wind, and dancing grass, whereas others may overlook them. Even though Kaya’s afraid of everyday noises and loud sounds, his curiosity helps him overcome his fears and explore his surroundings with composure. He makes new dog friends with ease, but he still feels uncomfortable with human touch. If you want to get closer to Kaya, try offering him some treats! He loves treats so much that he’ll let you touch him while he eats, gradually opening up to you. Kaya just lacks experience with people and is slowly learning how to accept affection.


With humans
Kaya has limited experience with being around people, so he may be startled if touched suddenly. However, his curious nature drives him to investigate people’s hands upon seeing them. He also loves treats so much that he permits others to touch him while eating.


With dogs
Since Kaya spent a long time with other dog friends, he gets along well with them regardless of their size or age!


With cats
Kaya has never met a cat.


Energy level
Kaya needs to go for a walk at least twice a day. To help him adapt to the outdoor environment, it’s best to take him out frequently for short walks. This will allow him to enjoy his walks with ease. Kaya’s insatiable curiosity makes walking an endless opportunity for him to explore nature. He delights in smelling flowers and catching the scent of the wine while on his walks. Kaya would also be thrilled to engage in nose work activities or play with toys.


Shedding/Barking
Kaya tends to shed. While he doesn’t bark much, this may vary depending on the environment.


Needs help with
To help Kaya overcome his fear of everyday noises and loud noises, it is necessary to provide desensitization training. By combining this with positive experiences, such as giving him his favorite treats or playing with him, he’ll learn to be less fearful and more confident. He may find human touch unfamiliar due to his limited experiences with people. Gently stroking Kaya can be beneficial in helping him become more comfortable with human touch.


Health specifics
Kaya has an underbite. To maintain his oral health, he needs regular brushing.

*Underbite is a dental condition in which the lower jaw and front teeth project beyond the upper front teeth.


Ideal family
We hope that Kaya’s family will demonstrate patience and responsibility by helping him adjust to his new surroundings. While he gets along well with other dogs, he has had limited interaction with humans and is currently learning how to engage with them under the guidance of his foster family. As Kaya adjusts to his new home with his loving family, it’s possible that he may make some mistakes along the way. Taking the time to teach him slowly will help him learn quickly! Kaya loves to explore during walks, play with toys, and engage in nose work exercises that challenge his problem-solving skills. To make his walks even more enjoyable, consider taking him on short walks throughout the day and playing his favorite games with him.
