Rescue story
WEACT received a report of a dog that had been abandoned on the road, later hit by a car, and was now wandering the area with injuries. When we arrived at the location, we saw the dog limping on one leg, but it still approached us with its tail wagging. We discovered an old scar on the dog¡¯s left hind leg that appeared to have undergone necrosis, and its paw was crushed. The results of the hospital examination were even more alarming. He tested positive for heartworm and had bladder stones, but what concerned us the most were the scars on its leg and pelvis, which indicated possible abuse. We also noticed that some of its toes had been cut off with sharp instruments and that its pelvis had been twisted due to intentional impact. We immediately rescued #weact_theo, who had been abandoned and exposed to abuse and danger.

Personality
Theo is always full of love; he's a friendly dog who enjoys interacting with people and finds happiness in it. He's an outgoing and affectionate dog who isn't at all shy. He'll eagerly approach people and say, "Hey, I'm Theo! Please come here!" if he senses that they are nearby but not paying attention to him. Theo wants to share his love with everyone he comes across. If you keep him close by your side, he'll reciprocate your love in countless ways. He loves being touched because he can feel the love conveyed through petting. When you pet him with affection, you'll also feel the love he returns to you. Theo is food-motivated and loves to demonstrate his skills, including waiting, giving a paw, and sitting, in exchange for treats. He thrives on positive reinforcement and encouragement instead of negativity or scolding.

With humans
Theo¡¯s heart is always directed towards people like a fully bloomed sunflower. Even in the hospital room, he would whine and beg for attention by saying ¡°Take me out and play with me!¡± Although he was sick, he would still ask the WEACT crew to touch him and snuggle against them before falling asleep. He¡¯s generally fond of people, but he seems to like men a bit more, which could be attributed to his past experience with a male owner. Abandoned in an unfamiliar place and waiting for the people he once trusted, Theo¡¯s yearns for human affection. Despite his injuries and pain, he approached us eagerly, wagging his tail and seeking the comfort of a human touch. Theo¡¯s enduring faith in love shows his resilience.

With dogs
While Theo is generally able to coexist with small dogs, his compatibility can vary depending on the size, age, and gender of the other dogs. He typically doesn't pay much attention to small dogs, and we have yet to observe how he interacts with larger dogs.

With cats
Theo has never met a cat.

Energy level
Since Theo goes outside for potty, he requires a minimum of three walks per day. He is well-behaved on a leash and enjoys going on walks. Despite having lost his left hind leg, he shows no abnormality in his gait and appears to have better balance without the discomfort of his amputated leg.

Shedding/Barking
Theo¡¯s coat sheds like any typical Labrador Retriever. He tends to express his anxiety through barking when separated from people within sight. However, he doesn¡¯t bark when he¡¯s with others or when he¡¯s unable to see people at all.

Needs help with
As an outdoor-pottying dog, Theo¡¯s well-behaved on leash and has good walking manners. He has learned basic commands, such as ¡°sit,¡± ¡°wait,¡± and ¡°paw¡± but has not received training for recall or kennel yet. He¡¯s afraid of car rides, possibly due to his experience with car accident. It would be helpful to condition Theo to associate car rides with happy experiences by taking him to enjoyable places.

Health specifics
Theo¡¯s currently undergoing treatment for heartworm. He¡¯s also recovering from the amputation surgery of his left hind leg, which was injured either due to a traffic accident or abuse.

Ideal family
Theo adores people and would thrive in a bustling household where he can receive an abundance of love. He requires a minimum of three walks a day as he prefers to do his business outside. Despite being abandoned by humans, he firmly believes in the love and comfort shared between him and people. The loss of his left hind leg didn¡¯t diminish Theo¡¯s angelic demeanor and smile. For Theo, a family is like his wings, and he eagerly awaits a family who will walk alongside him and give him lifelong unconditional love.
