Rescue Story
WEACT received a phone call that the caller heard an animal painfully shrieking in a small village. The caller also said that a male abuses a puppy by stabbing it with an unknown object and grabbing it by its mouth. A day before our rescue mission, our crew visited the site, confirmed the safety of the puppies, and made plans to safely rescue all three puppies. On the day of our rescue, we headed to Jeongeup before sunrise and met the abuser with city hall employees. Despite seeing the video evidence, the abuser denied all allegations and alleged that that there was no problem with his care. However, witnessing the site covered with moss and water bowls with dead flies, we could easily conjure what kind of ¡°care¡± he provided the pups. After several confrontations, the abuser finally told us ¡°to get rid of the dogs¡± and we were able to rescue all three dogs. The three dogs were: Shorty (dog grabbed by its mouth), Only, and Chunli. Among the three, Shorty especially seemed distraught and timid. He refused to drink water and showed signs of abuse. He had red eyes and lost some of his toenails.

Personality
Despite his past, Shorty is full of love and interested in humans. He does not resist human touch, but dislikes it when people suddenly hold or pet him. He is still a pup that has lots to learn, but he is curious smarty pants that is eager to learn! With patience, he will become your best friend with an irresistible charm. Please be mindful to approach him patiently and with caution. Shorty has also lightly growled and hurriedly swallowed his treat when his fostermate puppy has tried to steal his treat. He has not shown this behavior in front of his foster, but we recommend treating him separately, not in the presence of other dogs. We also recommend treating him in small portions and making sure that he is not provoked by his environment or others. Lastly, Shorty is in his teething phase and searches for objects to chew on. We recommend giving him wood sticks, dog chews, or other latex toys to chew on.

With humans
Shorty is afraid yet interested in humans. He wags his tail upon meeting strangers but remains cautious by sniffing around and keeping his distance. Once he trusts you, he loves to show you his charm! Because of his past, Shorty may bark if an adult man raises his hand, shows large movements, or places his hand on his wait. Shorty has been showing less of this behavior and we believe he will change over time and practice. He is also a jealous one! He has so much love in him and loves to receive all your attention and love. He has not been tested with babies yet, but gets along with toddlers and children.

With dogs
Shorty has been getting along with another dog at his foster. He also loves approaching and becoming friend with other dogs!

With cats
Shorty has encountered several cats on his walks and has shown no interest towards them.

Energy Level
Without another dog in the house, Shorty spends his time alone peacefully or sleeps. Once he is with his friend, however, he runs around the house and enjoys his playtime. After his third round of vaccinations, Shorty has been going on daily walks and seems to have a relatively high energy level. He does not bark at other dogs or birds during his walks and loves watching children play.

Shedding/Barking
Shorty has some shedding, but not to a significant degree. He does not shed much after he is combed. Because he does not react sensitively to his daily combing, we recommend combing him to reduce the amount of shedding. He may bark to welcome people to the house or when he is playing, but does not bark otherwise.

Needs help with
Shorty is wee-wee pad trained. He may mistakenly pee on the edges of the pad, but he has had an 80% success rate so far! We recommend using two or three pads to make the surface area greater. He also knows his name and calls back well except when he is completely immersed in his playtime. We believe he may need help with being called. He has not been kennel trained yet, but he has shown no resistance against kennels. He has also been doing well with his leash and harness training. Shorty understands sit, no, and eat commands. Because he loves food and is intelligent, we believe he will grow up to become a smart pup!

Health Specifics
Shorty¡¯s eyes often become teary, so we recommend daily cleanings.

Ideal family
Shorty¡¯s ideal family would give him unconditional love and security. Despite his past, he loves interacting with humans and showing them his love. He also has so much love for his foster¡¯s dog. The foster¡¯s dog helped Shorty come out of his shell and become the curious energizer he is today. We believe that a family with a dog of Shorty¡¯s size and age would be perfect for him. Also, Shorty does not have motion sickness. Although he has not been on many activities, we believe he would love being active by going camping or on trips. Shorty¡¯s ideal family would understand the importance of socializing during his puppy years and responsibly take care of him. We hope his family would provide him with the love and affection he deserves, more than enough for him to forget his past. Shorty is waiting for his forever family that will make invaluable memories with him!
